Hypochlorous Acid: What is it?
Hypochlorous (HOCL) acid is known to be a powerful natural oxidizing agent. In other words, an infection-fighting compound that can be found naturally occurring in the white blood cells of the human body. Hypochlorous was used in WWI and WWII as a wound cleaning agent; used to neutralize chemical burns. Upon contact with the pathogen, the neutrophils cells release a bactericidal chemical cocktail, including the powerful oxidizing agent, HOCL; this tears down the pathogen's cell membranes and proteins.
HOCL is also an infection-fighting compound in the human body working to break down infection-causing cells by destroying the cell membrane and the cells' DNA, thus halting the replication or growth process. The acid is produced by white blood cells and is an integral part of the immune response. HOCL is also referred to as an antimicrobial, killing dangerous microorganisms, making it equally effective against bacteria, viruses and fungi all occurring outside the body.
